MCN Letter of the Week
Wed, 08 Apr 2009
Dear MCN,
I am an avid reader of MCN and just so happen to also be a Police Officer in the Roads Policing Department. I find MCN to be anti-police generally, however this doesnt stop me reading.
I write with regards to Kevin Ash's article in 25 March 2009 edition. I agree somewhat with the views on the new equipment to be installed at road sides. The majority of motorists take a dislike to speed enforcement cameras. I have my own views on these. However, I must add that on the A14 near Cambridge the installation of average speed cameras has shown a fall in KSI (Killed/seriously injured) drastically since their installation.
Kevin seems to focus on CCTV, this is a nessesary evil in todays society has detected crime and brought to justice offenders who would have not have normally been so. Would Kevin expect there to be CCTV on a cash machine should his credit card be unlawfully used?
In my view, it is simple. There are roads, you pay your road fund licence to use those roads. However, should you wish to use those roads there are rules. You must have insurance, a valid driving license and your machine must be in good working order and the riders must obey the rules of the road. Should you choose to ignore these rules, then expect the consequences. Simple.
More traffic Police are desperatly needed, but how many would think any different being caught speeding by camera or by Traffic Police? Not many I fear, "have you not got real criminals to catch?"
Please feel free to publish my letter, however I request if you do please also add "these are my views and not the views of the Police Service".
