MCN Letter of the Week
Tue, 14 Apr 2009
I have filled my bike at my local Morrisons petrol station for years and always remove my helmet when going in to pay for the petrol. Last week I went to fill up as usual and the pump wouldn't work. There was an announcement over the tannoy which I didn't hear properly and I tried to use the pump again. Again there was an announcement so I took of my helmet to hear it.
The announcement was for me telling me I couldn't use the pump until I removed my helmet. When I went in to pay I asked about it and they said there was a sticker on the pump telling me to remove the helmet which I hadn't seen, Obviously this is a new policy as it has never happened to me before.
I questioned the reason for this and was told that criminals often keep there helmets on and drive off without paying, so does that mean all us bikers are criminals. I also asked about people from different religions who wear headpieces which sometime show less of the face than a motorbike helmet does but was told that they couldn't comment on that. I rang up and spoke to the manager when I got home and got more or less the same reply
My fear is that my helmet will get damaged as there is no where to put it other than on top of the bike where it could easily fall off. I don't suppose Morrisons will pay for a new helmet if this did happen!
