MCN Letter of the Week

Switched on in eager anticipation of an evening watching the first MotoGP this year. What a farce! And proof, if more is needed, that big money is ruining our sport.
Agreed, the organisers can't control the weather, but can anyone argue with these points:
- sheer greed on the part of the franchise owners pushed to extend the GP roadshow worldwide.
- money talks again with the fight over coverage- BBC won the contract and show only the main race- and that on a backwater of a channel.
- greed rules again as it is suggested that a fat cheque from the circuit owners brought the prestige of the opening race to Qatar in April, when rain is more likely, instead of waiting till October when dry weather is virtually guaranteed.
- due to the extreme heat, races must be run at night under floodlights (and let's not talk about the amount of energy squandered in the circuit, or global warming or any of that)
- rain comes in torrents, it's not safe to run under floodlights because of dazzle (didn't ANYONE think of that in the planning stages?)
- 125s stopped after 4laps, 250s shortened to 13 laps, GP cancelled or postponed.
Who loses out? Once again it's the fans and the paying punters. The organisers would be wise to remember that without the fans, the punters, the marshals, etc, there would be no sport.
