Successful inaugural Rallycross at Mallory Park

The final round of the Mirror.co.uk Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship was held at Mallory Park for the first time on Sunday and the event was a huge success for the Championship and the Leicestershire venue.

The bespoke track was specially built for this event providing a mixture of tarmac and shale for the high speed Rallycross cars to navigate. With the races running over just three laps of the 1600m oval the action was fast and frantic.
World Superbike Star. Leon Haslam took time out of his busy schedule to race a Suzuki Swift in the BRDTA Championship and loved every minute of it. He wasn’t the only driver to enjoy the event; everyone had a good day’s racing and can’t wait to return to the Friendly circuit. The series will return on Valentine’s Day next year, 14th February. Tickets to the Rallycross would make an ideal Valentine’s present for any petrol head.
John Ward, General Manager of Mallory Park said: “The inaugural Rallycross went really well and we had a good crowd of over 1000 spectators. It was a great day and everyone from the drivers through to the spectators enjoyed every minute of it. We had one or two little issues with the new track but we knew that was likely and it was all dealt with on the day. Leon Haslam had a great time and is interested in doing the fully Championship next year providing his World Superbike commitments allow him. We are also already booked for the 14th February to hold our next Rallycross event as part of the winter series.”
