90% of Motorcycle Riders Save with CIA Insurance

Benefits Of Insuring Multiple Motorcycles Under One Policy

Tue, 10 Nov 2009

Riding a motorcycle can be an incredibly freeing and thrilling experience - just you, your bike and the open road - and it can also be a practical mode of transportation, enabling you to get to your destination in good time as you zip through traffic. You may own a bike for everyday practical use and a second one that you ride for fun, or maybe you own different bikes for use depending on the season, garaging your usual bike during winter months and instead riding one that you use exclusively when the weather turns bad. Or maybe you are simply an enthusiast with a collection of bikes, because owning only one is not enough. Regardless of the reasons why you own multiple bikes, leaving your prized possessions unprotected against unfortunate events such as theft and damage is not a wise option, which is why having motorcycle insurance is so important.

Accidents can occur, no matter how cautious a rider you are, and bike insurance offers security and the peace of mind of knowing you will be adequately covered should the unthinkable happen. However, rather than go through the time, hassle and expense of insuring each bike individually, you should consider obtaining multi bike insurance. Reputable insurance providers offer this option, designed specifically to insure a number of bikes (usually up to around four) under one policy.

Financially, multi bike insurance makes sense since it would cost you a lot more to obtain separate policies on each bike. As a further cost effective measure, you may tailor the policy by choosing the options that best suit your needs, including full UK and European breakdown coverage, personal effects cover and legal protection. An added benefit to having just the one policy also means there will be less paperwork that you have to keep track of and have to dig up in the event you need to make a claim.

Obviously only one bike can be ridden at a time, and multibike insurance enables you to safely take one bike out knowing you and the bike are insured against mishaps, while your other bike or bikes are securely back in your garage protected against calamities such as theft or fire. If one of your bikes is damaged or stolen when out on the road or when housed in the garage, having insurance in place will save you from having to bear the full costs of any subsequent bills that follow.

Furthermore, having insurance on all your bikes means that if one bike is damaged or stolen, you will already have adequate coverage in place on another one to begin riding it immediately, rather than having to wait until you can take care of getting it insured.

One motorcycle rider, Richard Baldwin, who owns a 1988 Harley Davidson 883 cc and a Suzuki DRZ 400, maintains that he saves money on multi motorcycle insurance because he is able to limit the miles he uses on each bike. The Harley is more cumbersome, so he uses the more nimble Suzuki for riding within the city where he lives, and the Harley when he wants to take a bike out on a weekend ride, and thus by dividing mileage between both bikes he is able to save on his insurance.

In short, if you own two or more bikes, rather than leave any of your bikes uninsured or spend more money to insure them separately, you will be doing yourself a favour by obtaining a multi bike insurance policy.
