Crutchlow Hampered by Lack of Grip

Mon, 12 Apr 2010

The reigning World Supersport Champion can finish no higher than seventh in Spain, despite starting from pole position.

Grip issues came back to haunt Cal Crutchlow during race day in Valencia, even if the Brit was at least able to post his first double top ten World Superbike finish.

Starting from his second consecutive pole position around the Spanish circuit, Crutchlow was hoping to go better than his podium finish in Portugal, but instead found himself struggling for grip in both races.

Finishing seventh in the first race and ninth in the second, Crutchlow admits improvements need to be made to the Yamaha Sterilgarda in order for it to return to the front in the Netherlands.

"Race one was ok, I was just disappointed I lost the tow to the leaders at the start. We've got bad rear tyre problems again, seem to be spinning a lot more than the other competitors from the go.

“the higher grip levels in Portugal suited us better. We're looking forward to hopefully improving it at the next race in Assen. A difficult weekend, the second race was much the same, no grip from the start."
